About

ABOUT 12 STEPS OF RECOVERY

A twelve step program is a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the 1939 Alcoholics Anonymous Book

Many members of 12-step recovery programs have found that these steps were not merely a way to overcome addiction, but they became a guide toward a new way of life. Some of the best-known 12-step programs include Alcoholic Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Cocaine Anonymous (CA).

WHAT IS A 12 STEP PROGRAM?

A 12-Step program provides a supportive and safe place to learn and share knowledge with others in similar situations and circumstances as you build bonds and strengthen your support system. At meetings, participants share their feelings and experiences with drugs, alcohol, and addiction. Program participants work through the 12 steps, making needed personal changes to overcome their addiction.

Programs are peer-based and led by a member of the program. Leaders are often individuals who have a significant amount of time in recovery.

Anonymity

Many newcomers are extremely concerned that people will find out that they're coming to a 12-Step meeting; therefore, to help them come in, we do not use last names.

And most importantly, Anonymity is the Spiritual Foundation.... meaning we are all absolutely equal, and the use of last names or any differences begins to separate us from each other, and that just ain't Spiritual!

We maintain anonymity, meaning who we are and what we say in meetings remains anonymous and private.

Fellowship

12 Step Recovery is based on one alcoholic or addict sharing their experience, strength and hope with another.
12 Step meetings are gatherings of recovering people.

It Works

For more than 80 years, the 12 Steps have helped millions to recover from alcoholism and other addictions - to get sober and stay sober.

Membership

Membership costs nothing and is supported through member contributions, so there are no dues or fees for membership.
